Tradition, mentorship and inspiration - that's what theatre is made of: You never know what opportunity will be one that inspires you and impacts your life. Anne Of Green Gables (AoGG) was the first live musical I ever saw. My mother bought this farm girl tickets for my birthday. I had read ALL the books in grade five and six so she thought it fitting to send me as I also loved to sing but once I saw the singing, dancing and costumes all come together on a colorful stage, I was hooked on another genre of story-telling. I have seen it performed twice more live - once in its home of Charlottetown PEI. The musical and I are of an age; it turned 50 this year and has never been out of production making it the longest running annual production in the world. It is truly a Canadian treasure.

At CCH we take pride in producing top notch musicals and we have that tradition because of some very important mentors who devote their expertise and talent to work with the students. David Hignell helped to design the Eggplant and has been the lighting designer for almost every musical produced here not to mention stage manager when required. Students and teachers learn so much from working with him and drawing on his years of theatrical experience. Gerry Unger is a living legend to anyone who has ever had her choreograph a number for a show. She was part of the original team that thought musical theatre would be a fun option here at CCH and has choreographed every musical since. On any given "choreo" Friday, some alumnus is popping in to say "HI" to Ms. Gerry and give her a hug. Just admire the fun and clever dance numbers the cast performs in AoGG and you will see why Gerry is the very fabric of our tradition and mentorship. For the past two years U of L instructor Kelly Roberts has been working with our sound operators providing expertise and instruction in this area. Our own in house team of educators both past and present work with the student performers for five months on vocals currently with Mrs. Danielle Christensen, acting and live orchestra with Mrs. Sarah Harmon, rehearsals hoping to provide opportunity and inspiration for those students who just might find the same passion for the arts that we have. Another original musical team creator has joined us again this year and that is Carol Koran: principal, producer, costumer and properties mistress, historian, legacy keeper and voice of the proud tradition of musical theatre excellence here at CCH. It is no wonder she loves musical theatre - she is used to wearing many hats! The students are so blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many different mentors whether it is on set creation with Mr. Hogan or crew with Mr. Dalton there are many sources of inspiration. I think it is fitting on the 50th anniversary of AoGG we celebrate our many blessings with the show about the little girl who wanted a family by welcoming all of you to enjoy the fruits of our Eggplant family and the tradition of excellence in mentorship and inspiration continued by CCH MUSICAL THEATRE.

It's been my pleasure!
