Learning Leadership Qualities
CCH Athletic Leadership Program Learning Leadership Qualities - Testimonials
Zach Connick (grade 12) on Learning Leadership Qualities:
I have volunteered with Athletic Leadership for the past two years and during this time, I have learned many life skills and lessons. This program has shown me how important teamwork, communication and leadership are when running sports games and also in everyday life. I am fortunate enough to have learned these skills in such a positive environment.
I had the privilege to attend a trip to Calgary where I got to see the inner workings of how a Calgary Flames game is run. This was an awesome experience that put emphasis on the importance of teamwork and communication, without these, everything will fall apart. This is why I am proud to be a part of a group that teaches these skills. This group gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment and offers a way to be a part of the broader CCH community.
The icing on the cake are the trips. They are amazing experiences that are very hard to come by and gives you something that you will never forget! I am so glad to have spent time with this group. The experiences I have had and the lessons I have learned are worth their weight in gold.
Earning Credits
CCH Athletic Leadership Program Earning Credits
Mr. Leroux and Mr. Boudreau will be exploring various course and credit options throughout the 2018-2019 school year that may be valuable to CCH Athletic Leadership students. There are many Career & Technology Studies (CTS) courses that students may want to explore and experience.
There are two particular CTS clusters that we are looking at offering courses from. The Health, Recreation and Human Services (HRH) cluster has several courses that may be of interest to leadership students, particularly in the area of recreation and athletics.
The other cluster is the Business, Administration, Finance and Information Technology (BIT) as this has many skills within it that the Athletic Leadership students are working towards. Some of the BIT skills involve managing, communicating, organizing and marketing in the community and school.
Some of the other courses we are looking at are Leadership, Volunteerism, Mentoring and Special Projects.
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, and most of all love of what you are doing or learning to do"

CCH Athletic Leadership Program Scholarship and Awards
The Kimberly Oliverio Memorial Scholarship is a prestigious Catholic Central Award for Athletic Leadership Students. The Scholarship is valued at $1000.00 and is given to a student who exemplifies academics, strong leadership skills, school spirit and has given selflessly to school athletics.
Kimberly Oliverio was a dedicated and passionate student who volunteered countless hours during her 3 years as an Athletic Leadership team member at Catholic Central High School. She led by example and was a mentor to the other Leadership students. She modelled collaboration, communication, poise and confidence.
She was a true team player and never hesitated to do whatever job needed to be done. Everything that Kimberly did was infused with her personality and done with an element of wit and humour.

Athletic Leadership History
CCH Athletic Leadership Program History
The CCH Athletic Leadership program began in 1998. Mrs. Delbello was exposed to the idea at a professional development conference that she attended. She liked the idea and brought forward the idea to the principal (Mr. Mombourquette). The idea was good for students in many capacities so the program was off and running.
Mrs. Delbello taught the program for many years and turned the program over to Mr. Wikenheiser in 2015.
In 2017 Mr. Leroux and Mr. Boudreau took over the program and have grown the program in many capacities.
Today, Mr. Leroux and Mr. Pasquotti have taken the lead with this program.
"Leadership is diving for a loose ball, getting the crowd involved, getting other players involved. It's being able to take it as well as dish it out. That's the only way you're going to get respect from the players."

Events We Organize
CCH Athletic Leadership Program - Events We Organize
The Catholic Central Athletic Leadership Team organizes and runs several activities throughout the school year. Weekly team meetings are held to prepare, organize, communicate and plan these events. The team is in constant motion coordinating and planning for athletic activities. This year we have 43 team members so the communication and trust process has to start building from our first meeting. The team is always treated with pizza, cookies and chocolate milk.

Team Building
CCH Athletic Leadership Program Team Building
The CCH Athletic Leadership Team is exposed to many sport, activity and community events throughout the year. The Athletic Leadership Team needs a strong sense of a team first attitude. We try and have various team building activities throughout the school year and encourage a high rate of student participation at them.
The field trips provide the athletic leadership students with many positive experiences. These hands on community events help students to build their individual leadership skills away from a school setting. It is our goal to continue providing team building experiences for our team.
Year End Athletic Leadership Field Trip: Canmore and Banff, AB

As a final thank you for all the hard work and dedication to our athletic leadership team we provide them with a Leadership Workshop and Team Building trip to Canmore and Banff, Alberta that is typical scheduled for the end of May. The workshop will be led by the Pacific Center for Leadership- a highly regarded company from Canmore, Alberta. They are an organizational consulting group that enhance workplace performance through team and leadership development. They are committed to providing experiential learning opportunities to students as a contribution to building leadership capacity in the next generation. The students participating in this project have volunteered to be part of the athletic leadership program because of their dedication to CCH and the greater Lethbridge community. They have given selflessly of themselves and want to make a difference in the lives of others through servant leadership.

Business & Sports
CCH Athletic Leadership Program - Business and Sports Sport management has become a big part of many sports organizations. Athletic Leadership students will have an opportunity to explore this area through Special Projects. We are in the process of looking at various CTS credits and applying them to special projects. The students will gain experience in the areas of sports administration, fitness and recreation while applying business foundations. The goal is to study competencies in relation to leadership, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Event management, finance, marketing and social media are all areas that students can build their skills in. Students will also have the opportunity to increase their skills in the areas of assertiveness and time-management. |
