Sport Medicine I Overview

Purpose:Students will learn about the various topics associated with sports medicine. Instructional methods will include; lecture, problem solving, guided discovery, laboratory work, independent research, computer technology and acquired skills for field/practical situations

NOTE:
The expectation for students is to simply aid with the assessment and rehabilitation of the injured athletes. It is imperative that athletes, coaches, parents and adult supervisors consult with and abide by the recommendations made by the medical professionals involved.
Students will obtain 5 credits by studying the following courses from the new CTS courses found in the Health, Recreation and Human Services Clusters.

Recommended 1 credit modules:

  • HSS 1010 - Health Services Foundations
  • REC 1020 - Injury Management I
  • HCS 2020 - First Aid/CPR with AED
  • HCS 1050 - Musculoskeletal System
  • HCS 1080 - Cardiovascular System

To enhance classroom learning experiences students who receive an 80% average in each of the 5 modules may apply to become a student athletic trainer for one of the Cougar sport teams.

Course Fee:
$30.00 Standard First Aid Certification (St John Ambulance)

  • Exams

Sport Medicine II Overview

Robyn GieskeBeing in the Sports Medicine program at CCH helped me realize that this was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, my "Ah hah" moment so to speak. I am a Kinesiology student at the University of Lethbridge working towards my masters certificate in Athletic Therapy. I can honestly say this program was a huge asset to my decision.
