The CCHS Musical Theatre program is both a curricular and a co-curricular activity. Students earn credits in Musical Theatre while also having the opportunity to learn about the collaborative nature of fine arts and to experience first hand the joys and sacrifices of being part of an intense learning activity.

Since 1992 the program has included hundreds of students in all aspects of the production. In a community already well known for its amateur theatre productions, Catholic Central High School helps provide aspiring actors, directors, stage managers and designers with an opportunity to learn the art of dramatic production under the guidance of experienced teachers and community volunteer.

Our Musical Theatre Mission Statement

The mission of Catholic Central Musical Theatre is to provide opportunities for students to appreciate and understand the art of musical theatre through direct participation in all aspects of musical/dramatic productions.

The Wizard of Oz

32 Years of Student Musicals
  • 2024 - The Wizard of Oz - Tickets on sale now!
  • 2023 - The Addams Family - The people involved in this show had worked hard for what felt like an eternity to put together our return: from cast putting in the hours in acting, singing, and choreography rehearsals to the crew learning the ins and outs of working behind the scenes in the tech booth and backstage, they were a creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky bunch of kids whose level of weird almost outshined that of the adults working alongside them.
  • 2022 - "Rewritten" - This show was written and directed by Mr. David Mikuliak's Drama 10, 20, and 30 students as we found ourselves coming out of the pandemic fog. This group of students wrote and performed the "revival of CCH musical history's past." It was a special year that acknowledged 30-years of student musicals at CCH.
  • 2021 - There was no musical production due to school closures (COVID).
  • 2020 - Matilda – This show was Mrs. Mitchell's last endeavour before her retirement. It was a high energy show with outstanding performances from a very talented group of students. MATILDA had to come to an early stop on March 12 but the seven shows that ran were very well attended, well received by the audiences  and very well done. I can't tell you all how proud I am of how everyone came together for what we learned would be our final show and put on a performance that had such energy and passion it made me proud and will long be remembered as one of the best ever
  • 2019 - Mary Poppins - " It is an iconic show with wonderful but huge and demanding musical numbers to learn and choreograph; 126 pages of script to interpret and relay the story through 40 different characters; over 100 period and fantasy costumes are required; tricks and magic on stage are needed." - Laurie Mitchell (Director)
  • 2018 - Big Fish - "Big Fish is a wonderfully crafted musical - the story is relatable and a fabulous mix of fun fantasy and heartwarming family relationships and the music is amazing. It is a winning choice that the production staff instantly were excited to tackle; it is also a good choice as we were blessed - it doesn't happen often - with enough amazing young men to be able to consider it!" Laurie Mitchell – Director
  • 2017 - You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown - "As a director, working with such classic characters has been both fun and challenging to bring such well-known cartoon characters to life and find the balance of honouring the cartoon creator's vision and the talented young actors with whom we are blessed to work."
  • 2016 - Beauty and the Beast - We invited you to "Be Our Guest" and everyone enjoyed this bright and beautiful sold out performance that had been chosen specifically to help celebrate all that 25 years has meant to those involved or entertained by Catholic Central Musical Theatre!
  • 2015 - Anne of Green Gables - Truly a Canadian treasure. The story of a little girl who wanted a family in Avonlea, a tiny village in Prince Edward Island at the turn of the century.
  • 2014 - The Sound of Music - We once again brought this delightful classic to the Eggplant.
  • 2013 - Bye Bye Birdie - The show represents a great deal of talent, skill, creativity and patience coming together in an effort to provide students with a wonderful opportunity to learn about musical theatre and to provide you with one very entertaining, "REALLY BIG SHOW"!
  • 2012 - CINDERELLA - A more modern interpretation came to the show with the funniest dialogue and making the characters come to life in the most outrageous ways. A new director, Kristen Balaski, pulled off an exciting show and says "If this musical has taught us anything, it is that all it takes is a great pair of shoes".
  • 2011 - GODSPELL - Under the bridge, Jesus begins his ministry to a group of mismatched people from all walks of life not unlike us. It was a great experience with new director Dr. Mark Nixon with a cast of 11 actors with "Team Godspell" (10 member choir).
  • 2010 - Peter Pan is a classic, well-loved musical. It was presented with fun and fantasy for all ages to enjoy.
  • 2009 - Anything Goes had delighted the massive crowds with humor abound. Mrs. Laurie Mitchell did it again, with her talent as a director at the helm, you can now be assured of more terrific shows to come.
  • 2008 - The Wizard of Oz was a delightful show that awed the sold out crowds with the fantastic vocals, acting, makeup, costumes and special effects. With a new director in the house, it could not have been better. Great job to all involved!
  • 2007 - Anne & Gilbert ... The Island Love Story - The cast and production staff were particularly thrilled when the writers of the original show, Bob Johnston and Nancy White, flew in from Toronto to attend the Friday night sold out performance.
