Joseph Program 2026
From the Directors Chair:
How. Is it March already? …but really: the months BLUE by faster than ever this year. In a year of ups and downs, one thing that has been consistent is that we are back in the Knights of Columbus Eggplant Theatre for another wonderful production. Are you RED-y? When we met at the end of last year, we were quickly in a-GREEN-ment that this year needed to be something fun and memorable. There was not much of a CRIMSON-lose-some fight – no one had to YELL “OW!” and from the planning stage, one show ROSE to the top of the mountain: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We knew it fondly as some members of our wonderful production team were in the first production of this show BLACK when the Eggplant Theatre first opened in the 1998 999 school year at CCH. I can’t believe it, but those wonderful people have been here since the first PURPLE-ing (and they are just as youthful as ever!). PINK-ing back on the experiences and getting to bring a new generation of students into the tradition is quite the honour – LI-LAC the words to explain it fully.
Why Joseph? Well, we know that it’s A ZURE hit! What else could it be – music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Tim Rice, and a FAWN-tastic cast, crew, and production team joined for the first time by our PEACH-y keen youth choirs from St. Pat’s Fine Arts and St Paul elementary schools, you can CHOC(OLATE) this one up to a show that will be remembered GREY-tly. This musical has it all, brought to life by a wonderful ensemble of people (and let me tell you, ensemble shows are pretty entertaining, even if others would tell you otherwise – you see, people sometimes just see the world in such a drab palette and have absolutely no taste)! The story of Joseph pulls us into the Book of Genesis and tells us the story of the GOLDen child, Joseph who can interpret dreams, much to the chagrin of his (O)LIVE-id brothers. As far as sibling rivalries go, this one takes Joseph all the way to Egypt and into some CREAM-inal misunderstandings. Instead of staying put, he finds himself on the MAUVE and uses his gifts to try to find a SILVER lining for Pharaoh. The show culminates in a chance encounter with the brothers who VIOLET-ed his trust and puts Joseph to the ultimate test. Can Joseph RUSSET up the courage to do what is right instead of what is easy? Revenge, or cLEMONcy?
Get ready for a colourful experience back in the Eggplant, everyone! Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat promises to bring an amazing story to life once again at CCH. At its core is another heartfelt show about one’s family and finding your place in the world. As Tim Rice said in the foreword of our script: “[…] the show is at its freshest and funniest when performed by those for whom it was written – children.” This year’s show is framed around this idea, using the imagination of children telling the story of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to bring our production to life. This show has heart, brains, BROWN, and a few jokes here and there that should be WHITE up your alley.
ORANGE you glad you made it to the end of this, or maybe the colour puns didn’t win you OCHRE? Hopefully they didn’t leave a SCAR(LET) or RUB(Y) you the wrong way, because you should leave this show feeling and dreaming big. As the Narrator says: “If you think it, want it, dream it, then it’s real. You are what you feel.” Hopefully as the show begins, you can dream about the magic you are going to see; as the show ends, we hope that you feel great, because you are what you feel. Enjoy the show!
